If you have previously been removed from the general register in South Australia and wish to now provide veterinary services in South Australia, you must apply to reinstate.
Application for Registration
Section 31 of the Act notes the circumstances that may have caused a veterinarian to be removed from the register.
(a) on their application; or
(b) on account of failure to pay the prescribed practice fee or to furnish the return required under section 32; or
(c) on account of the person ceasing to hold a qualification required for registration on that register or otherwise ceasing to be entitled to be registered on that register; or
(d) on account of failure to pay a fine imposed on the person by the Tribunal under this Act,
In the case of reinstatement following suspension or disqualification, the applicant should be mindful of the minimum suspension or disqualification period before reapplying.
Process
An application for reinstatement should be made online.
The following information may be required:
- Current photographic identification lodged through greenID or for overseas applicants through fit2work
- Documentary evidence of any legal change of name if the applicant’s name differs from that shown on the degree certificate.
- Previous registration number
- Personal information such as name, email, address etc
- Letter of professional standing if registered in another Australian jurisdiction
- Evidence of your medical fitness to provide veterinary services (if applicable)
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development
- National Crime Check issued within the last 12 months
- International Police Check if ever lived or primarily been based in a country other than Australia for six consecutive months or longer when aged 18 years or more
- Evidence of compliance with professional indemnity insurance requirements
- Information relating to any investigation under the Act or a repealed version of the Act or corresponding legislation of another jurisdiction (if applicable)
- Whether you have ever been charged with a criminal offence that attracts a penalty of 1 year or more imprisonment (if applicable)
An applicant for reinstatement must, if the Board so requires
(a) provide the Board with specified information to enable the Board to determine the application; and
(b) verify, by statutory declaration, information furnished for the purposes of the application.
The Board may also require an applicant for reinstatement
(a) to submit a medical report or other evidence acceptable to the Board as to the applicant’s medical fitness to provide veterinary services as a veterinarian; or
(b) to obtain additional qualifications or experience specified by the Board before the Board determines the application.
(c) to submit identification checks, a police clearance or criminal history check or a letter of professional standing.
The registration application is a statutory declaration. It is an offence under section 91 of the Act to provide false or misleading information in your application, and criminal penalties may apply. Section 13(a)(iii) of the Regulations also stipulates that providing information relating to veterinarian qualifications for registration knowing that the information is false or misleading in a material particular may be considered unprofessional conduct.
Conditions
After assessment of a reinstatement application, the Board may impose one or more conditions on the veterinarian’s registration. These may comprise of:
- restricting the places or times at which the person may provide veterinary services as a veterinarian,
- limiting the kind of veterinary services that the person may provide
- limiting the kind of animal the person may provide veterinary services to
- limiting the period during which the registration will have effect
- require that the person be supervised (for more information see guideline on supervision)
- such other conditions as the Board thinks fit.
Fees
An application for reinstatement on the general or specialist register must be accompanied with the prescribed fee being the application fee, and the annual practice fee in accordance with the schedule of fees.
